FOUNDATION AWARDS TWO SCHOLARSHIPS


Glendive, Montana, July 31, 2013 - The Glendive Medical Center (GMC) Foundation is pleased to announce the scholarship recipients for the 2013-2014 school year.

The August and Mary Sobotka Endowed Scholarship of $5,000 has been awarded to Caleb Bettenhausen of Baker, Montana. Caleb graduated from Baker High School and the University of Montana in Missoula. He is studying to be a trauma surgeon at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine. Caleb is a Second Lieutenant in the Montana Army National Guard, and was recently selected by Air Force Special Operations to become a Combat Rescue Officer / Team Leader of Pararescuemen. Additional honors include being selected as a US Army Hospital Officer of the Year in 2012, and University of Montana Student Representative to the Legislature, Spring 2013. Caleb is eager to return to Eastern Montana to provide medical services following graduation.

The MJB Nursing Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Hannah McPherson of Glendive. A graduate of Dawson County High School (DCHS), Hannah is in her final year of at the Montana State University in Bozeman, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Hannah is an active volunteer through the Montana Campus Compact, a program that is dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement and service learning in higher education. A well-known local athlete, Hannah has volunteered over 800 hours in Dawson County and Yellowstone County during her college career. She served as secretary of the Montana Student Nurses Association in 2012.

Commenting on the awards, Carol Condon, Foundation Director, said, "The Foundation selection committee was very impressed with all who applied this year. In particular, Lt. Bettenhausen exhibited a deep dedication to leadership in medicine, and Ms. McPherson will make a fine nurse. Our hope, as always, is that these students will return to Eastern Montana to practice following graduation."
