Glendive Medical Center to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony
Glendive Medical Center (GMC) will begin a long anticipated and much needed expansion and renovation project in June. The primary focus of the multi-million dollar project is to modernize and expand the surgical services department, but will also include relocation of the main entrance and a wing of the Extended Care nursing home, improvements to the emergency department and parking lot.
A brief groundbreaking ceremony is planned for Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. on the Medical Center campus. GMC Board members along with City and County officials will be among the dignitaries and community leaders taking part in the event.
"This groundbreaking marks a truly momentous day for GMC, the community and the many families we serve throughout the region," commented Judy Courtney, Vice of President Patient Care Services. "The ceremonious shoveling of earth symbolizes what the Medical Center founders envisioned for the community more than 100 years ago - to build a compassionate place of healing for eastern Montana residents."
Parking will be affected throughout the duration of the project. The main parking area will be reserved for patients and visitors only. Employees will be asked to park in selected areas around the Medical Center. A comprehensive parking plan has been developed and reviewed with the City of Glendive Street Committee. Lee Boyles, Vice President of Strategic Development, stated, "GMC truly appreciates the patience and understanding of area resident's associated with the parking changes during this construction project."
"The project is a collaborative effort of community members to design a patient centered environment of care. The state-of-the-art surgical services suites will allow for the latest innovations, highest quality and patient safety standards,'' said Melonie Beeler, GMC Board Chair. "As a not-for-profit, community-based Medical Center, GMC pledges to continue its focus on improving patients' and families' overall healthcare experience.''
The groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public. GMC staff members are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be held on the lawn to the west of the GMC main entrance. Refreshments will be served.
