Our area schools require that students in grades 5 through 12 have a pre-participation sports physical before they can engage in any activity or begin a new competitive season. Sports can be a great way for your children to socialize while improving their overall physical condition. However, it is also very important to ensure they are medically fit and do not suffer from an underlying problem that might be aggravated by increased physical demand. It is very unlikely that your child will be excluded from any youth sport but your health care provider may want to change medications or suggest other strengthening activities to make them a better, stronger athlete.
It is important for parents to notice any changes in their child's physical condition or behavior throughout the sports season, especially if your child has any special risk factors.
